Hello!
Basic overview: The current parking assist applications are unsuccessful and rely on expensive infrastructure that is specific to certain regions and dependent on government institutions for support. I aim to design a solution that works off of a crowd-sourced data set that caters both to users that are familiar with an area through gamification and rewards system and to users that are unfamiliar with the parking situation of an area through establishing trust through smart adaptation and a customized parking solution. I interviewed 9 participants who either have much experience parking in metropolitan areas, who have parked in an unfamiliar metropolitan area, or fall into both categories. I aimed to pinpoint the exact pains of parking and what is needed most. Please see the following google doc for my fieldwork plan and problem definition.
Results: Through the collection of quotes and anecdotes, I isolated the key areas in which the current parking experience is lacking. I learned that no two people can agree on what matters most to them in terms of parking nor why these elements are valued. Every driver is different, however, every driver shares this desire to “get lucky” or “be creative” to find the ultimate parking spot. Why not design a parking guardian angel, or Parking Angel, that does the hard work for you? Please see the following google doc for a synthesis of my field work.
