Black River by El Anatsui

I found this art work in Boston Fine Art Museum.

This tapestry is made from discarded liquor-bottle caps and wrappers, by an African artist El Anatsui.

The liquor-wrappers used have a logo of such as “Dark Sailor” and “Black Gold”, which remind us of the long slavery history of Africa. Also, the black river expressed by the black wrapper represents an oil and other natural resources which causes a lasting conflict in the region.

I think it represents a power of the art in general wellthe power which is desirable to imply something without conveying directly, and which thus sometimes all the more effectively tell an artist’s thought to the public.
