On the surface, HBO’s epic fantasy series Game of Thrones seems like it might be capable of drawing only a small committed viewership. Based off George Martin’s epic series, the show follows dozens of complex interweaving characters and families as several contenders battle for control of the Iron Throne in the alternate reality of Westeros. Magical, otherworldly and graphic, Game of Thrones has amassed a huge fan base for its novelty – and perhaps for the copious amounts of gore and sex. I think Game of Thrones is an interesting case study because while it has an incredibly detailed plot line, it has no clear direction. In other words, it’s the show’s third season already and we might all be being led on a long and crazy road to nowhere.
