Despite the proliferation of note-taking apps available on the mobile market, most people still prefer to take notes in traditional pen-and-paper notebooks. Why is this? Is it because real notebooks will forever be superior to anything an app can offer? Or is it because an app has not yet been designed to replicate and enhance the note-taking experience?

Based on informal interviews with more than 30 people, we identified the major needs of note-takers and overhauled the native iOS Notes app to do those things – and nothing more – delivering a simple, intuitive solution to a problem that digital tools have struggled to solve.
