What if you could shiver off extra pounds? Former NASA material scientist Ray Cronise thinks that exposing the body to extreme cold can help induce weight loss. This fad has apparently gone viral  – people do everything from taking ice baths to sleeping with ice packs. The idea behind the system developed from Cronise’s obsession with Michael Phelps. Just how did he manage to eat 12,000 calories a day while training for the olympics? Cronise’s conclusion: “Phelps was spending hours every day in water, which was sucking heat from his body. He was burning extra calories just to maintain his core temperature of 98.6.”

Before you jump into the the nearest snow drift — right now their is no precise science behind any of this. However, if your philosophy is no pain, no gain this could be a solution for you – the shiver system HURTS (just ask Jack and Rose).
